Falcons Shutout Emmanuel 8-0 in Five Innings

The Albertus Magnus softball team scored six runs on five hits in the opening inning en route to an 8-0 shutout victory (five innings) over Emmanuel (Mass.) in GNAC action on Friday evening. The Falcons' Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) finished the contest with one hit, two runs scored and two RBI to lead her team to victory.

Mirto registered both of her RBIs in the first inning to give Albertus (13-17, 7-11 GNAC) an early 2-0 lead. Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) followed with an RBI single to extend the Falcons' lead before two more Falcons crossed the plate on a Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.)  triple, her team-leading third of the season.

Danielle Thuerling (10-13) earned the win for the Falcons, her 10th of the season. Thuerling threw a two-hitter in the GNAC contest, while she walked one batter and struck out two in five innings of work.

Julia Levins took the loss for Emmanuel as she fell to 3-7 on the year. She threw just one inning of work as she gave up five hits and six runs. Jennifer Garrity pitched the final three innings of the contest as she did not allow a hit but walked two and gave up two runs.
