Emerson Defeats Falcons 9-0 in Six Innings

Emerson's Kelsey Tuthill threw a one-hitter as the Lions defeated the Albertus Magnus softball team 9-0 in six innings on Friday afternoon. Albertus' Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied the Falcons' lone hit in the shutout loss.

Emerson registered 11 hits in the contest led by Brittany Rochford and Lauren Jacaruso who both recorded three hits apiece. Jacaruso was 3-for-3 for the Lions with two runs scored and two RBI, while Rochford was 3-for-4 with two RBI as well.

The Lions scored four runs in the second then one in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, Tuthill recorded her fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot that gave the Lions a 7-0 advantage. Emerson added two more runs in the sixth inning to take the eventual 9-0 win.

Tuthill had a no hitter going into the sixth inning before Figueroa's single. Tuthill struck out nine and walked one batter in her 13th win of the season.

Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) took the loss for the Falcons as she moved to 11-16 on the year from the hill. Thuerling struck out three and walked two, while giving up eight earned runs.
