No-Hitter Lifts Gordon over Falcons 10-2

Gordon's Kelly Beardslee threw a no-hitter as the Fighting Scots defeated the Albertus Magnus softball team 10-2 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Thursday. The Falcons' Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) and Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) both registered RBIs in the contest.

The Falcons (3-3) got on the scoreboard early as Maio's sacrifice fly out to center field in the first inning gave Albertus a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) led off the game by getting hit by a pitch before stealing both second and third to get into scoring position. After a strikeout, Maio drilled the ball into the outfield, giving Urciuoli plenty of time to tag-up and score on the play.

Gordon scored two runs in the bottom of the frame as the Scots recorded three hits.  They also left three runners on base as Albertus freshman Jackie Medina (Bridgeport, Conn.) forced a groundout to end the inning.

After taking a 3-1 lead, Gordon added five runs in the third inning thanks to two hits and two Albertus errors. Kara Pepper tripled for the Scots to clear the bases, adding three RBI to her tally.

Albertus scored its second run in the top of the fourth inning as Maio led off the frame with a walk before moving to third on an error then a ground out. Mirto followed with a sacrifice fly to left that scored Maio from third.

Gordon finished the contest with runs in the bottom of both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 10-2 victory.  The Fighting Scots finished the contest with nine hits.

Albertus' Medina gave up all nine hits and four earned runs in the contest as she struck out one and walked six batters.

Beardslee struck out six and walked two in five innings of work for Gordon.
