In the second game of the Albertus Magnus softball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in New Haven, the Falcons used another walk off hit to edge Brooklyn College 5-4. Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.) did it again with a double that scored the game-winning run. In the first game of the afternoon, the freshman hit a walk off two-run home run to give Albertus the extra-inning victory.

Castillo finished the contest 2-for-4 for the Falcons who improved to 4-6 with the win. Brooklyn fell to 1-3 with the back-to-back losses.

Albertus scored first in the contest, putting one run on the scoreboard in the third inning on a Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) RBI single.

In the fourth inning, Albertus took a 2-0 lead before Brooklyn posted four runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 advantage. In that frame Liza Nunez led the way with two RBI.

Albertus went into the bottom of the seventh down two runs. Sophomore Rachel Cataudella (Shelton, Conn.) led off the frame with a single before senior Carli Matrisian (Milford, Conn.) registered a pinch hitting triple that plated Cataudella from first. Matrisian later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) to tie the game at four with just one out.

After Brooklyn registered the second out of the inning, Fortier kept the Falcons' hopes alive with a double and then scored on Castillo's double to give Albertus the win.

The Falcons had a well-balanced offensive outing in game two as they their 10 hits came from eight different players led by Fortier and Castillo with two hits apiece.

Shyleen Ortiz (New Britain, Conn.) earned the win for Albertus for her first of the season. She went the complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits. She struck out one and walked one batter as well.

Kayla Hill dropped her second-straight game to fall to 0-2 on the year. She gave up all 10 hits and struck out one batter.

Albertus will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Saturday when the Falcons host Saint Joseph's College of Maine at 3:00 p.m. on the turf field.
