The Albertus Magnus softball team swept the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a pair of non-conference games on Monday afternoon in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.  The Falcons have now won five-straight and are 11-9 on the year.

In the first game of the day, the Dolphins jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. The Falcons responded by scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. Daysia Wehder (Queens, N.Y.) led the Falcons in the frame as she posted a two-run single.

Albertus added a run in the fourth and then another in the fifth to take the commanding lead.  Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) drove in a run with a single in the fourth before Kirsten McGinty (East Lyme, Conn.) scored the Falcons' final run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

Freshman Samantha Maselli (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) improved to 8-3 in her 11th appearance on the year and her 10th start.  She struck out three in the complete game and allowed just four hits.

The Dolphins were led by Joann Guerra who finished with two of her team's four total hits in the contest. Kathleen Davis took the loss as she fell to 1-4 on the year, working four innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. She struck out four batters.

In the second game of the day, Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn.) pitched a complete-game shutout as she struck out two batters and allowed just three hits.

The Falcons scored one run in the second inning, the eventual game winner, then three in the fifth men route to their 4-0 victory.  Shyleen Ortiz (New Britain, Conn.) singled then Brianna Spadacenta (East Haven, Conn.) scored on an error to give Albertus a 1-0 lead in the second frame.

The Falcons' three runs in the fifth were thanks to hits from Brianna Whitfield (West Islip, N.Y.) and Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.).

MSV was led by Mackenzie Heizer with two of her team's three hits as she also doubled in the contest.

Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) and Castillo each recorded a pair of hits in the contest, while Whitfield added a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Kathryn Dalton pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits, while Heizer finished out the game, throwing two scoreless innings of relief for the Dolphins, who are now 5-12 on the year.

Albertus returns to action when they play Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.  The league contest has been moved to New Haven, Conn. to Albertus' campus due to the lack of fields available near Anna Maria.
