The second-seeded Albertus Magnus softball team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in six innings to advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Championship on Sunday. The Falcons will need to win just one game on Sunday to earn the program's second-ever GNAC Tournament title. Albertus will face the winner of Saint Joseph's College of Maine and JWU on Sunday.

With today's victory, the Falcons improve to 24-11 on the year as their 24 victories this season mark the most in program history. The Falcons scored at least one run in the first three innings of play in East Boston as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Albertus added three runs in the fifth and then two in the sixth en route to the 9-0 win.

Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) led the Falcons as she went 3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI. Brianna Whitfield (West Islip, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) added a 2-for-3 performance with a double and a triple as well as two runs.

In the circle, Samantha Maselli (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) earned the win as she improved to 15-3 on the year. She went 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and no runs as she combined with Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn.) for the shutout. Ferraro recorded the final two outs of the afternoon for Albertus.

Jennifer Corona picked up the loss for JWU as she fell to 15-7 on the year. She went 4.2 innings as she allowed six earned runs and eight hits.

The Falcons will play at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday. If they win, the GNAC Tournament title comes back to New Haven, Connecticut. A loss in that contest will force a second game at 2:30 p.m.
