The Albertus Magnus softball team split a pair of games in Saturday's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament action as the Falcons fell to second-seeded Southern Maine 4-1 before defeating Suffolk 2-1 to eliminate the Rams from postseason play.

The Falcons (26-14) will now play Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. against the Southern Maine Huskies. Brandeis (20-14) won both games on Saturday and has now won 11 of its last 13 games.

In game one for the Falcons, Samantha Maselli (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) allowed eight hits and struck out one. USM's Amber Kelly allowed just four hits in seven innings.  She struck out nine batters in the contest. Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) led off the game with a home run to center field, her team-leading fifth of the season.  The Huskies tied the game in the second inning as the Falcons committed an error to allow the run to score.  With runners on the corners,  a ground ball to third forced a rundown but the throw back to third got away and allowed the runner to cross the plate.

Kristen Duross homered to center to score the go-ahead run as Kelly, who doubled, scored as well. Kelly retired 12 of 14 hitters after the third inning.

The Falcons bounced back in game two, edging Suffolk 2-1 to eliminate the fellow Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) team from ECAC play.

Suffolk opened the contest with one run in the first inning on a bases-loaded single by Morgan Parmeter. The Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the second when senior Carli Matrisian (Milford, Conn.) doubled to get on base before scoring on a RBI double from junior Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.).

In the fifth inning, the Falcons put runners on base with a one-out walk and then a single off the pitcher's glove. Matrisian then sent the ball through the right side of the infield, allowing the eventual winning run to come home.

Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn.) tallied five strikeouts in the contest as she allowed one run on nine hits.

Ali Yamakaitis took the loss in the contest as she went six innings, struck out eight batters, and walked two.
