Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College softball team took both ends of a doubleheader against in-state rival Coast Guard last week to improve to 8-2 on the year. With the two victories, the Falcons  stretched their winning streak to five games heading into a Monday showdown with Mount Saint Vincent. In the opener, freshman Kristen Cunning and sophomore Samantha Maselli held Coast Guard to just five hits and one run in the win. In game two, sophomore Megan Ferraro tossed a complete game shutout for the Falcons.

Earlier this Week: Albertus Magnus split a non-conference doubleheader at Celentano Field versus regional foe Mount Saint Vincent on Monday afternoon. The visiting Dolphins took the opener, 9-3, and the Falcons answered with a 7-2 triumph in game two.

This Weekend: The Falcons open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a road doubleheader against Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday. On Sunday, AMC returns home for a non-conference doubleheader against John Jay.

Last Year Versus the Monks: Albertus Magnus and Saint Joseph's split a league doubleheader in New Haven last March. The Falcons took the opener, 5-2, behind a three-hit performance by Melissa Castillo. In the finale, Theresa Hendrix tossed a complete game to lead the Monks past the Falcons, 2-1.

Scouting Saint Joseph's: The Monks enter the week coming off an 8-1 loss to Haverford in their final game during their spring break trip in Clermont, Florida. SJC will play in-state foe University of New England in their first game in the Northeast this season earlier in the week. In the circle, Kristal Smith is 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 22 innings of work this year. Offensively, Jennifer Murphy leads the team in batting average (.458), hits (11), total bases (14), RBIs (7), walks (7), on-base percentage (.581) and slugging percentage (.583). Three other Monks are hitting above .340 earlier in the season.

- Cunning tossed over four innings and scattered five hits to earn the win against Coast Guard last week in the first game of a doubleheader. She struck out four hitters and surrendered just one earned run to remain a perfect 3-0 this spring in the circle. She was saddled with the loss in game one against CMSV.
- Castillo hit .500 with three hits in a double a doubleheader sweep of in-state rival Coast Guard last week for Albertus Magnus. In the opener, she went 1-for-3 with a lead-off single in the top of the fourth. In the nightcap, Castillo went 2-for-3 with one run scored. She accounted for two of the team's four hits, while coming around to score an insurance run in the seventh. In the field, she recorded a .950 fielding percentage with 20 total chances.
- Ferraro won her third start in a row and improved to 5-1 on the year after tossing a complete game and allowing just one earned run versus CMSV on Monday. She lowered her ERA to 1.89 to go along with 16 strikeouts in 37 innings of work.
- On Monday, junior Megan Kelly celebrated her 21 birthday by hitting her first career home run. She sent a fly ball to deep right field and raced around the bases for an inside-the-park solo shot. Kelly also leads the team in stolen bases with eight.
- Offensively, Brianna Whitfield is batting .500 with a team-high 17 hits. Sophomore Gillian Fortier has a team-best seven RBIs to go along with a .381 batting average, while Kirsten McGinty is hitting .409 with five RBIs.
