Balanced Effort Leads Falcons to Doubleheader Sweep at Lasell

Newton, Mass. – Behind a 23 run performance, including a four-run RBI grand slam from Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) in game one, the Albertus Magnus College softball team took two from Lasell College on Sunday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Falcons triumph in game one, 16-1, before taking game two, 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning – Albertus Magnus opened game one with the early 2-0 lead following back-to-back RBI's from Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) and Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.).

(T) 3rd Inning – The Falcons added four more tallies to their total in the top of the third, pushing their lead to six, 6-0. With one out and bases loaded, Rachel Cataudella (Shelton, Conn.) started things off with a two-run RBI double before Megan Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) allowed Cataudella to score off a RBI single to center field. Fortier would allow the final run to score before Morgan Shura (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded the final out of the inning.

(B) 3rd Inning - Erin Smith started off the third inning with a left field single, and led Lasell with one knock and a run in the effort. An RBI single from Maggie King plated Smith for the home team's lone run of the game.

(T) 4th / 5th Inning – Alberutus Magnus sealed the win after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth and six runs in the top of the fifth to earn the 16-1 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Fortier and Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.) each respectively went 3-4, as both upperclassmen had two homeruns on the day with Fortier's happening in grand slam fashion.
  • Albertus Magnus went 15-of-35 at the plate while Lasell went 4-of-20.
  • Aliza Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons with three runs while also adding two hits and a RBI to her stat line.
  • Following today's win, Ferraro improves to 9-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 2nd Inning – After a scoreless first inning, Albertus Magnus broke the silence scoring six runs on seven hits and a Laser error to take to take a six-point cushion. Aliza Esposito and Megan Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Falcons in the second with a two-run RBI while Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, COnn.) and Daysia Wehder (Bronx, N.Y.) added an RBI apiece.

(T) 4th Inning – Fortier extended the Falcons' lead to seven, 7-0, as the third basemen singled to left field to allow Kelly to score before the Falcons go down 1-2-3.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Wedher recorded an impressive game as she went 3-for-4 at the plate as well as added a run scored and a RBI.
  • Fortier, Kelly and Esposito led the visitors with two RBI a apiece.
  • Smith led the Lasers on the bases in the nightcap, stealing twice, and tallied two singles adding to the Lasers' four hits on the day.
  • Albertus Magnus finished game two going 10-of-32 at the plate while the hosts went 4-of-26.
