Softball Splits Twinbill with Bay Path

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader to Bay Path University on Wednesday afternoon at Shea Stadium. The Falcons shut out the Wildcats in game one, 9-0, but fell short, 4-2, in the nightcap.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS (G1)

After two scoreless innings, Albertus struck first scoring six runs in the bottom of the third to take the early lead. The inning was led by a two-run RBI triple from Jess Stettinger (East Haven, Conn.) and a two-run RBI single from Kristin Cunning (Hoboken, N.J.). 

Albertus maintained its six-run advantage until the bottom of the six as the Falcons scored an additional three runs to put the game away 9-0. 

KEY STATS (G1)

  • Junior Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) recorded her third one-hitter of the season and improved to 6-1 on the season.
  • Anderson also recorded six strikeouts and walked one batted.
  • Junior Aliza Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) led the offensive attack with three hits to go along with two runs scored and a RBI.
  • Kristin Cunning (Hoboken, N.J.), Kayla Gosselin (Milford, Conn.) and Stettinger each tallied two hits for the Falcons.
  • Cameille Keith recorded the Wildcats' lone hit.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS (G2)

Bay Path and Albertus traded runs over the first two innings of play until the Wildcats pushed its lead to three, 4-1, after scoring three runs in the top of the third.

Over the next four innings, Albertus was only able to score one run in the bottom of the seventh as Megan Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.) scored off an error after getting on base by a hit by pitch.

KEY STATS (G2)

  • Camille Keith led the Wildcats offense with two hits while Marissa Sarna-McCarthy recorded a team-high two RBI.
  • Four different Albertus players registered a hit against Bay Path's bullpen.
  • Freshman Erin Dighello (Wallingford, Conn.) suffered the loss for Albertus and falls to 3-5 on the season. She also finished the game with six strikeouts.

UP NEXT
Albertus opens up GNAC play this week with back-to-back home doubleheaders against Saint Joseph's of Maine and Simmons. The Falcons battle on the Monks on Saturday, April 6 at 12:00PM and 2:00PM before facing the Sharks on Sunday, April 7 at 12:00PM and 2:00PM.
