NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost in its home opener to the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent by a final score of 65-60 on Tuesday night.
Ariellys Velez (Watertown, Conn.) led the Falcons in scoring with 22 points to go with six steals and seven rebounds. Ava Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) added 13 points and eight rebounds and Isabella Fiorillo (West Haven, Conn.) scored 12. Adriana DeBernardo (Stratford, Conn.) had a team-high 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first quarter, the Dolphins got the scoring going, but the Falcons managed to keep it close, and tie it from a made layup by Velez and a three pointer by DeBernardo. The Dolphins closed the quarter by going on a 17-5 run to lead 22-12.
- Five different Falcons scored in the second quarter, but the Dolphins doubled up on Albertus in the frame, and went into halftime leading 42-22.
- The Falcons started the second half on fire, going on a 9-0 run as Fiorillo scored four points and Velez, three less than two minutes into the third quarter. Velez and Johnson each finished with eight points in the quarter as the Falcons chopped its deficit down to five points, trailing just 52-47 heading to the fourth.
- The Dolphins opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run, but the Falcons responded with a 10-0 run of their own behind four points apiece from Velez and Keira Reynolds (Guilford, Conn.) as they trailed just 61-57 with two minutes left. Albertus would not get any closer the rest of the way as the Dolphins were able to hold on for the win.
