NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost a 71-48 game to the Springfield College Pride on Wednesday in a non-conference game.
Ariellys Velez (Watertown, Conn.) led the Falcons with 20 points. Ava Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) had 16 points with nine rebounds and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was scoreless until the Pride finally scored the first points on a basket by Natalie Lucas. The Falcons managed to tie it after two made free throws by Velez. Springfield took the lead right back, courtesy of Lucas again. But the Falcons responded with a made layup by Keira Reynolds (Guilford, Conn.). The Pride took a 14-10 lead after the first 10 minutes of the game. Johnson and Reynolds each scored four points in the first quarter.
- Isabella Fiorillo (West Haven, Conn.) scored four of the first six points for the Falcons in the second quarter as Albertus got within 18-16 with 4:26 left in the half. However, the Pride finished on a 15-4 run the rest of the way, including a layup at the buzzer by Madison Lopez.
- Albertus scored the first two points in the third quarter on a pair of free throws by Johnson, but the Pride followed with a 13-2 run to take a 46-24 lead halfway through the quarter. The Falcons would go down 57-33 heading into the fourth quarter. Johnson had five points in the frame, while Velez had four. Amanda Leary and Claire Finney each scored seven to pace the Pride.
- In the fourth quarter, Albertus did not get any closer than 21 points. Velez scored 10 of her points in the quarter.
