NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team had a fantastic rebound year in 2019, posting their best overall record in the last three seasons with an 8-8-1 overall mark and their best home record since 2016 at 6-3.

Albertus opened the season with a 5-1 setback to Elms College, where Mercedes Faust (Warwick, RI) scored her first career goal. The Falcons rebounded after that, however, shutting out both Mitchell College (10-0) and Bay Path (3-0) over their next two games. Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) led the offense in the two wins, recording 13 points across both games with three goals and two assists against Mitchell and two goals and one assist against Bay Bath. This dominating display gave her the first of two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week awards for the season. Senior goalie Cassidy Scofield (Shelton, Conn.) picked up her first two victories of the year for the Falcons, tallying five saves across both games.

The Falcons dropped a close 2-1 match to the Lasers of Lasell University in their next tilt. Two days later, Albertus made history in a lopsided affair with Northern Vermont-Lyndon, defeating the Hornets, 11-1, for the program's highest scoring output in over a decade. Raposo recorded her second hat trick of the year, while Austin tallied her first hat trick, to go along with a pair of assists. In addition, freshmen Jenessa Perez (Oxford, Conn.) and Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) each scored their first career goals.

A week later, Raposo and Scofield led the Falcons to a 3-0 victory over the Sharks of Simmons University. A pair of goals from Raposo, and a trio of saves by Scofield sealed the deal for the Falcons, who improved to 4-2 with the win. The Falcons would fall to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University, 6-3, in their next game, despite goals from Haley Andrews (Prospect, Conn.), Sophia Austin (East Hartford, Conn.), and Raposo, and a season-high 18-save performance by Scofield.

The Falcons rallied from the previous defeat by blanking Rivier University in their next contest, 3-0. Raposo scored her 12th goal of the season, and Austin scored her sixth goal. Sophomore Sammara Streater (Hamden, Conn.) made her first start in goal for the Falcons and tallied four saves for her first career shutout.

The Falcons opened October with a 2-0 loss to Emmanuel College, despite another double-digit save performance by Scofield. Following the loss, the Falcons would clash with Norwich University in the next game. The Falcons battled the Cadets to a 2-2 double-overtime draw. McGeehan and Raposo each found the back of the net for Albertus.

The Falcons then topped Anna Maria College in a home contest at Celentano Field by a final score of 6-1 on October 9. Andrews led the offense with her first hat trick of the season, while Raposo, Perez, and Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) contributed a goal each. Andrews and Scofield would lead the Falcons in the victory over the Regis Pride in the following game, as Scofield went 6-for-6 in save opportunities, recording her third shutout of the season, and Andrews scored the lone goal of the contest. Following the pair of victories over the AMCATS and Pride, Andrews and Scofield were awarded GNAC weekly accolades for the second week of October.

The Falcons lost the next three games in close fashion, with Scofield totaling 23 saves over the three contests. The Falcons lost 2-0 to both Suffolk University and the St. Joseph's University (Maine), before dropping a close one to Colby-Sawyer, 2-1, behind a last-minute goal by the Chargers. Andrews scored the lone goal in the loss.

The Falcons got back on track in their final regular-season contest against the University of St. Joseph's (CT), defeating the Blue Jays, 2-0. Both Andrews and Raposo fired one into the net, while Scofield was a magnet in the goal, going 9-for-9 in saves.

With a 5-6-1 record in GNAC play, the Falcons garnered the No. 6 seed in the conference's championship tournament. In the quarterfinals, Albertus ran into No. 3-seeded Emmanuel on the road. The Falcons suffered a hard-fought 5-2 loss to the Saints, with Raposo netting both of the Falcons' goals. In net, Scofield posted 10 saves, her fourth double-digit save performance of the year.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Throughout the season, the Falcons utilized a balanced offense that was paced by Raposo and Andrews, as the duo combined for 27 goals and 14 assists. In addition to this devastating tandem, the Falcons had nine different players score two or more goals, with five different players tallying multiple assists. Scofield and Streater combined for five shutouts this season, with Scofield recording a career-high four shutouts.

With 28 points on the season, behind 10 goals and eight assists, Andrews was named Second Team All-Conference as a forward, her second All-Conference nod in two seasons. The Prospect, Conn., native ranked second in the GNAC in assists per game (0.47), fourth in total assists (8), and fifth in total points (28). Andrews tallied 20 of her points (8G, 4A) in conference play to go along with a team-best three game-winning goals. After two straight productive seasons, Andrews is sixth on the Falcons' career goals leaderboard (21), seventh in career points (50), and tied for 13th in career assists (8).

After an outstanding debut season for the Falcons, Raposo joined Andrews with All-GNAC honors, being selected to the Third Team. The product of Warwick, R.I., was second in the conference and 27th in the country in both points (2.35) and goals per game (1.00), in addition to leading the Falcons with 40 points and 17 goals, which are both new program records. After just one season, Raposo is up to eighth on the program's all-time goals leaderboard (17) and 10th on the program's career points leaderboard (40).

Austin was third on the team with a career-high 20 points on six goals and eight assists. She was tied with Andrews for second in the GNAC in assists per game (0.47) and fourth in total assists (8).

In goal, Scofield appeared in 15 of the Falcons' 17 games. She logged a 6-8-1 overall record with 108 saves and four shutouts. In her final collegiate season, Scofield tripled her career win total.

Scofield joined Kaitlyn Ellsworth (Tolland, Conn.) and Sabrina Pohlig (West Palm Beach, Fla.) as the three seniors on the team. The three seniors were honored prior to Albertus' 2-0 win over USJ on Senior Night on October 30. Ellsworth and Pohlig both commanded the Falcons' defense during their tenures, as the former made 58 career appearances on the backline, and the latter made 28 appearances.

In addition to their on-field accomplishments, the Falcons also excelled in the classroom, with 11 of their 22 players earning Dean's List recognition for the Fall 2019 semester (STORY).
