Women's Swimming & Diving Competes in Day Two of the GNAC Championship

Wellesley, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team completed day two of three of the 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship at the Wellesley Sports Center. The Falcons ended the day in eighth place behind a team score of 176.

"The individual commitment these young women have given throughout the season is what has made them the team they are today. I can only hope they are as proud of themselves as I am. They have set a standard that is commendable and respectable. I look forward to what the final day of competition brings."


PRELIMINARY RESULTS

500 Yard Freestyle

  • Kiara Pabon (Hamden, Conn.) finished in 20th place with a prelim time of 8:17.20.
  • Pabon's time was a new personal best.

50 Yard Backstroke

  • Elizabeth Sherry (Mechanicsville, V.A.) finished in fifth place to solidify a spot in the "A" final behind a prelim time of 30.67 seconds.
  • Joselyn Streeto (New Haven, Conn.) earned a 20th place finish in the event with a prelim time of 45.18 seconds.
  • Streeto's prelim time was a new personal best.  

100 Yard Butterfly 

  • Ana Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Hermosillo, M.X.) finished in third with a prelim time of 1:01.31.
  • Gomez's prelim time was a new school record. 

100 Yard Breaststroke 

  • Megan Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.) finished with 10th place behind a season-best time of 1:20.55.
  • Anderson's time in the event was a new school record.
  • Arle Cruceta (Salcedo, Dominican Republic) finished in 22nd place with a season-best time of 1:54.65.

100 Yard Freestyle

  • Sherry finished with eighth place to earn a spot in the "A" final behind a season-best time of 57.99 seconds. She beat her previous time by eight seconds. 


FINAL RESULTS

500 Yard Freestyle

  • Pabon finished in 20th place with a final time of 8:09.77, dropping a total of 7.43 seconds off her prelim time.
  • Pabon picked up a point for the Falcons. 

50 Yard Backstroke 

  • Sherry dropped .86 seconds off her prelim time and finished in fifth place behind a time of 29.81 seconds.
  • Sherry scored 18 points for the Falcons, setting a new school record. 

100 Yard Butterfly

  • Gomez finished fifth in the event and picked up a total of 18 points for the Falcons behind a time of 1:01.97.

100 Yard Breaststroke

  • Anderson placed 10th overall in the event and scored a total of 13 points for the Falcons.
  • She finished with a time of 1:22.09.

100 Yard Freestyle

  • Sherry beat her own school record this morning as she finished with a time of 57.88 seconds to earn 14 points for the Falcons. 

400 Medley Relay 

  • The medley consisting of Sherry, Crisbeth Castañeda (Guatemala City, Guatemala), Gomez, and Anderson put up a school record by 30.62 seconds, finishing with a time of 4:40.22 and in eighth place.

The 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship concludes tomorrow, Feb. 2 at the Wellesley Sports Center. The meet is set to begin at 9:30AM.
