Women's Swimming & Diving Opens Season at USJ Pentathlon

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Ana Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Sonora, Mexico) and Maria Estrada (Guatemala City, Guatemala) earned wins for the Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team on Friday evening as the Falcons opened the 2022-23 season at the USJ Pentathlon.

RESULTS

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
50 Yard Butterfly
• Gutierrez Gomez led the way for the Falcons with a time of 29.77 for a second-place showing in the 50 fly.
• Estrada was just edged by her teammate to take third place with a time of 31.36.
Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.) also represented AMC in the 50 fly, taking ninth with a time of 34.74.
Olivia Rocheleau (Hamilton, Ohio) rounded out the Falcons' competitors in 11th with a mark of 37.35.

50 Yard Backstroke
• Gutierrez Gomez tallied another top-five finish, placing fourth in the 50 back with a time of 35.23.
• Freshman Sophie Olander (Amston, Conn.) took sixth with a time of 35.62.
• Rocheleau finished the event in 37.55, good for seventh place.
• Oliver finished the 50 back in 39.81 to take 11th.

50 Yard Breaststroke
• Estrada finished under two seconds shy of first place in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 39.07 for second place.
• Oliver and Rocheleau had 42 seconds between them in 10th and 11th place with times of 48.09 and 48.51, respectively.
Camila Gordillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) took 14th place after posting a time of 1:01.18.

50 Yard Freestyle
• Gutierrez Gomez picked up the Falcons' first win of the season in the 50 free, finishing three-tenths of a second clear of the field with a time of 27.54.
• Olander recorded another solid showing in the 50 free, posting a time of 29.69 to take fourth.
• Rocheleau finished as AMC's third top-seven finisher in the event, taking seventh with a time of 30.83.
• Oliver placed 11th in the event with a time of 33.39, edging teammate Gordillo in 15th with her mark of 39.11.

100 Yard Individual Medley
• Estrada matched Gutierrez Gomez by earning an individual win, as she topped the 12-person field in the 100 IM with a time of 1:13.33.
• Gutierrez Gomez also competed in the event and took seventh with a mark of 1:23.84.

UP NEXT
The women's swimming & diving team returns to action tomorrow afternoon as the Falcons host the Corsairs of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for a dual meet at 1 p.m. at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center Pool.
