Women's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Five, Defeats Dean in Straight Sets

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to five games as the Falcons swept Dean College in straight sets on Tuesday evening at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams battled for the lead to start off the opening set as an attack error by the Bulldogs sparked a 5-0 spurt to put the Falcons up 9-4. The Falcons found themselves up 11, 24-13, before securing set one by a score of 25-17.

With the set tied 8-8, Albertus Magnus rallied off nine straight points to put themselves ahead 17-8. Dean could only play catch-up as the Bulldogs lost, 25-13. 

Dean threatened the Falcons in the third and final set as both teams battled through five ties, but the Falcons would come up on top 25-20.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Senior Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons' attack with a team-high 10 kills to go along with a team-high four blocks.
  • Sophomore Jessell Guzman (Santa Teresea, N.M.) recorded a game-high 14 digs, while sophomore Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) and senior Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) added eight digs a piece.
  • Albertus Magnus finished the match with 32 kills and a team hitting percentage of .163.
  • Dean recorded only 18 kills, but held a 43-42 edge in digs over the Falcons.

UP NEXT

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Friday, Sept. 22 against SUNY Old Westbury. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
