NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After helping their teams to multiple victories last week, Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) of the men's basketball team and Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec) of the men's ice hockey team have been named this week's Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.
For the second consecutive week, Bonilla paced the Falcons in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game over three 25-plus point wins for Albertus. The junior guard shot 42.2% (19-for-45) from the floor and 41.4% (12-for-29) from behind the arc and averaged 3.7 rebounds per game over the trio of contests. Bonilla opened the week with 20 points and two boards in AMC's impressive 123-94 win over Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday. On Thursday, he poured in 16 more points and four rebounds in a home win over Regis (Mass.) College. Finally, Bonilla recorded 14 points, five boards, and two assists to help guide the Falcons past Anna Maria College, 84-59, in road GNAC action on Saturday.
The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team hits the court again on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for a 7:30 p.m. home clash against No. 1 nationally-ranked University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at "The Nest" located inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
Gagnon has been on fire in his last two games, as he tallied five points on three goals and two assists in a pair of Albertus wins. The senior forward opened the week with a career-high four points on two goals and two assists to lead the Falcons to a 4-1 home win over Connecticut College on Friday at Ralph Walker. Gagnon then scored his second game-winning goal of the year to help Albertus secure a 4-3 road victory over Cortland.
The men's ice hockey team returns to the ice this afternoon to play SUNY Morrisville at 3 p.m. at the Mustangs' Morrisville IcePlex.
