NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Amanda Savinelli (New Haven, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Sean Jefferson (West Haven, Conn.) of the baseball team were named this week's Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.
Savinelli helped guide the Falcons to a 16-0 shutout win over the Blazers of Elms College on Thursday afternoon as the sophomore hurler threw a complete-game, no-hitter. Over 5.0 innings of work, Savinelli allowed just one walk and fanned two batters, earning her third win of the spring campaign.
The softball team returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 15th, with a road doubleheader against the Cadets of Norwich University. Game times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Jefferson highlighted the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader split with Saint Joseph's College of Maine with a walk-off home run. With the game tied at 10-all heading into the bottom of the tenth inning, Jefferson took matters into his own hands, launching a leadoff bomb onto the street behind right field to secure the 11-10 walk-off victory for the Falcons.
The baseball team returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 15, with a home conference doubleheader against the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University. Game times are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Rochford Field.
