Albertus Magnus Athletics Holds "Falcon Fest" to Honor Student-Athletes

New Haven, Conn. – On Monday, April 24th, in the Hubert Campus Center/Behan Community Room, the Albertus Magnus College Department of Athletics held its annual end-of-the-year awards banquet, which the department re-named "Falcon Fest", to honor its student-athletes and coaches as well as to celebrate its successes from this past academic year. 

Members of the college community, including staff, administration, and faculty, were invited guests to the awards night and were among the crowd to honor the Albertus Magnus student-athletes.

The athletics department gave out seven major awards, while the student-athletes voted on Top Male and Female Performance of the Year and Moment of the Year.
The list is as follows:

  • Iron Falcon

    • Taina Vargas (Bridgeport, Conn.) - Women's Volleyball 

  • Male Athlete of the Year

    • Terry Dawkins (Bronx, N.Y.) - Men's Basketball 

  • Female Athlete of the Year

    • Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) - Women's Basketball 

  • Male Newcomer of the Year

    • David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) - Men's Soccer 

  • Female Newcomer of the Year

    • Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) - Women's Soccer 

  • Betsy Fahy Award

    • Declan Ryan (Hamden, Conn.) - Men's Soccer 

  • Coach of the Year

    • Mitch Oliver - Men's Basketball

  • Top Male Performance of the Year

    • Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) - Record-breaking 10 made three-pointers in a single game versus Saint Joseph College of Maine. 

  • Top Female Performance of the Year

    • Haley Andrews (Prospect, Conn.) - Scored two goals against Johnson & Wales University to become the all-time goals and points leader in AMC women's soccer history 

  • Moment of the Year

    • Men's Basketball - GNAC Championship Victory over nationally-ranked No. 1 University of Saint Joseph (CT) 


Each program also gave out its team awards at the end-of-the-year banquet on Monday as well.

Men's Soccer  

  • Falcon Award Winner – Denis Blandon (Meriden, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Erik Dahlgrad (Merrimac, Mass.)
  • Most Valuable Player – EJ Gonzalez (Cheshire, Conn.)

Women's Soccer         

  • Falcon Award Winner – Jordan Kikosicki (East Haven, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.)
  • Most Valuable Player – Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.)

Women's Tennis         

  • Falcon Award Winner – Juju Oliver (New Britain, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Nayelli Garcia (East Haven, Conn.)
  • Most Valuable Player – Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.)

Women's Volleyball     

  • Falcon Award Winner – Elizabeth Lynch (Stratford, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Da'Veona Parker (New Haven, Conn.)
  • Most Valuable Player – Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.)

Field Hockey 

  • Falcon Award Winner – Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.)
  • Most Valuable Player - Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.Y.)

Men's Golf      

  • Falcon Award Winner – David Aquavia (Oakville, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Kyle Sikorski (Norwich, Conn.)
  • Most Valuable Player – Shamar Wilson (Montego Bay, Jamaica)

Men's Ice Hockey

  • Falcon Award Winner – Ryan Herpy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio)
  • Most Improved Player – Tim Manning (Concord, Ohio)
  • Most Valuable Player – Alex Gagnon  (Montreal, Quebec)

Swimming & Diving

  • Falcon Award Winner – Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.)
  • Most Improved Player – Sophie Olander (Amston, Conn.)

Men's Basketball

Women's Basketball    

  • Falcon Award Winner – Sharaya Keele (Adams, Mass.)

Baseball
