Martin, Murray-Leach Named Falcon Spotlight Players Of The Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team and Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) of the women's basketball team were named the Albertus Magnus Falcons Spotlight Players of the Week.

Martin was instrumental in the women's ice hockey team's first two wins in program history during a 2-1-1 start to December.. In the first win on December 1 against Rivier, Martin scored a goal to go with three assists in a 5-3 win on the road over Rivier. The two teams tied the following day back at Ralph Walker, 1-1.

Albertus then headed up to Salem State to participate in the Viking Cup. In the semifinals against Lebanon Valley,  Martin scored the first goal of the game and also added an assist, helping lead the Falcons to the finals in a 3-2 win. In the championship game, a 3-2 loss to Salem State, she added another goal. She finished the four-game stretch with three goals and four assists and +6 on the ice.

For the season, Martin has five goals and seven assists, and sporting a +4.

Murray-Leach has been the cog in a 4-0 start to December and a current five-game winning streak for the women's basketball team. She is averaging 20.3 points and 9.5 rebounds in December thus far. 

In an 80-57 win at Colby-Sawyer in the team's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener on December 2, Murray-Leach finished with 24 points on 11-for-14 shooting to go with ten rebounds. 

She followed it up with another monster game scoring 25 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in an 83-72 win over Wesleyan on December 6.

In a non-conference 93-60 win over Baruch on December 8, she scored 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists.

Against Dean in the GNAC home opener, she scored 17 points in 16 minutes, including 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from three as the Falcons set a program record with 20 three-pointers in the win.

This season, Murray-Leach is averaging 18.6 points per game while shooting 51.2 percent from the field, both of which put her fifth in the GNAC. This past week she was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.
