Men's And Women's Basketball To Kick Off GNAC Tournament In The Nest On Tuesday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's and women's basketball teams will embark on their quest for the 2023-24 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship as both teams will be hosting GNAC quarterfinals games on Tuesday inside The Nest.

At 5:30 p.m., the women's team - seeded third in the GNAC - will host the sixth-seeded New England College Pilgrims. The two teams will be very familiar with each other as they met on Saturday, February 17 in the regular season finale.

The Falcons, who led by just two points at halftime, took control in the third quarter, leading to a 68-59 win. Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) and Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) both led the Falcons in scoring with 17 points apiece. Jakara Murray-Leach scored 15 and Amanda, Zdru (Stratford, Conn.), 12.

It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2012 and the sixth all-time meeting between the teams. The series is now tied, 3-3.

The No. 2 seed Falcons will look to defend its GNAC Championship from last season as they will take on No. 7 Regis in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. in The Nest.

In an 88-72 road win over Regis on February 10, the newest member of the 1,000-point club, Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.) scored 22 points to go with 13 rebounds and Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) scored another 18 points with seven rebounds. The Falcons used an early 15-0 run in the first half to take control and never relented.
