Baseball Swings into the Spring Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Albertus Magnus College baseball team dusts off its gloves for the 2024 campaign on Saturday against Eastern Nazarene College with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader under first-year head coach Ian Ratchford before embarking on a seven-game Myrtle Beach trip on March 9-15.

The following week, the Falcons open conference play with back-to-back games at home against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Norwich University on March 23, with a noon first pitch. Albertus leads the all-time record 34-13 and the team has won five of their seven matches, including a home field First Round GNAC Tournament win in 2021. Albertus remains home the next day with a divisional matchup versus Rivier University starting at noon. The Falcons have dominated the all-time matchup 38-10 and have won 11 of their last 12 over the last six seasons.

Albertus Magnus pauses from league action with a contest at nearby Coast Guard on March 27 at 3:30 p.m., followed by a single conference matchup at home against Lasell University on March 29 and a noon doubleheader on the road at Mitchell College on March 30. The Falcons open April with two consecutive away games at Framingham State University and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on the first and second of the month.

Returning to GNAC play, the Falcons host the Elms College Blazers in a noon doubleheader on April 6 before traveling to New England College the next day for a single conference contest. In a mid-week matchup, Mount Saint Mary's (N.Y.) visits the Falcons on April 10 with hopes of breaking a two-game losing streak and cutting the all-time deficit record, 7-12. Albertus hits the pavement for a five-game road trip ignited by a doubleheader at league foe Saint Joseph's (Me) on April 13, a non-conference doubleheader on April 14 against Fisher College before returning to the state for a local matchup at Western Connecticut University on April 17.

Albertus goes on a seven-game conference binge with two contests against Anna Maria College, Colby-Sawyer College and the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on April 20, 21 and 27, respectively, broken up by a lone non-conference contest at Gordon College on April 26. The Falcons invite the AMCATS and Chargers to Rochford Field in Hamden, Conn., travel to the Blue Jays and face Dean College on the road on April 23. The team plays one game in May on the first against Merchant Marine, with a 7 p.m. first pitch.
