Men's Ice Hockey Ends Buffalo State Bengals Classic with Loss to Fredonia

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team closed out the Buffalo State Bengals Classic with a 4-0 setback to the Blue Devils of Fredonia State University of New York on Saturday afternoon in the tournament's consolation game.

Albertus was led offensively by Tyler Ignazzitto (Bath, Ontario), who registered four shots, all of which were on goal, while Coleton Cianci (Kirkland, Quebec), Jonathan Stein (Vancouver, British Columbia), and Dino Antoniadis (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) added three shots each. Falcon goaltender Joseph Giacobbo (Deptford, N.J.) took the loss between the pipes despite a 25-save performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Devils broke through for the game's first goal 3:46 into the opening period. Fredonia gathered the puck in its defensive zone and skated to the other side of the ice where Gregg Lee beat Giacobbo over his stick-side shoulder to give the Blue Devils the early 1-0 lead.

After giving up the tally, the Falcons settled in and kept the Blue Devils off the scoreboard for the remainder of the period. Albertus finished the first with eight shots, with eight different Falcons having a crack at goal. Giacobbo settled in and finished the first 20 minutes with 11 saves.

Fredonia again took advantage with an early goal in the second period. With 8:36 elapsed in the frame, Bryce Witman sent a one-timer over Giacobbo's shoulder to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.

Even though they gave up a goal, the Falcons outshot the Blue Devils in the second period by a 13-10 margin. Ignazzitto led the charge for AMC with four shots in the second.

Fredonia put the contest away in the third period behind goals from David Sudbrink and Matt Letmanski. The Letmanski strike sealed a 4-0 victory for the Blue Devils.
