Men's Ice Hockey Stumbles in Home Clash against Saint Michael's, 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team suffered its first loss of the 2022-23 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Saint Michael's College by a 2-1 final score at the Ralph Walker Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Purple Knights opened the game's scoring 11:44 into the first period on a goal from Zach Taylor.
  • Despite trailing, the Falcons out-shot Saint Michael's in the frame by a 12-7 margin.
  • The second period was highlighted by both defenses, as the two teams combined for just 13 shots and zero goals to transition the game into the third, with the Purple Knights leading 1-0.
  • SMC added to its advantage at the 4:57 mark of the third when Jeremy Routh put the visitors up 2-0.
  • Ryan Colwell (Plainedge, N.Y.) cut the AMC deficit to one, 2-1, with a power-play strike at the 13:03 mark. After some passing around the zone, Colwell tipped a Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) shot by the opposing keeper for his first goal of the year.

  • Unfortunately for the Falcons, Colwell's goal was their only one of the game, as the Purple Knights escaped Ralph Walker with a one-goal victory.

The Falcons return to the ice on Saturday, Nov. 5, for the first game of a home-and-home series against Wilkes University, which is ranked 11th in the Preseason DCU/USCHO Division III Men's Ice Hockey Poll.
