Men’s Ice Hockey Advances to Codfish Bowl Championship Game with OT Win over Tufts

BOSTON – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team advanced to the title game of the 57th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament, hosted by UMass Boston, with a 4-3 overtime win over Tufts University on Friday afternoon.

Tim Manning (Concord, Ohio) netted the game-winner with 46 seconds left in overtime to send the Falcons to the championship game tomorrow. In goal, Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) made a career-high 47 saves to earn his 10th victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • JJ Berdal (Wausau, Wis.) started the Falcons' night on the right foot by giving AMC an early 1-0 lead 25 seconds into the contest.
  • After Tyler Ignazzitto (Bath, Ontario) won an early faceoff, Berdal rocketed a wrister from the his blue line that sailed into the top-right corner of the net.
  • Albertus found paydirt again at the 11:47 mark on a goal by Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.).
  • Berdal started the scoring play by dumping the puck towards the goal, where Dino Antoniadis (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) backhanded a pass to Pattison for a tally to the goalie's stick side.
  • Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario) gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead 3:27 later by scoring off a Pattison pass from behind the net.
  • The Jumbos controlled the second period, scoring both goals in the frame to make it a one-goal contest, 3-2, heading into the third.
  • Tufts evened the score at 3-3 by netting the lone goal of the third period on the power play at the 13:48 mark to force overtime.
  • With 46 left in OT, Manning called game by netting the winner off a rebounded shot.
  • Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) brought the puck over the blue line before passing to Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta), whose saved attempt led to the Falcons' victory.
  • Bateman picked up the victory between the pipes for Albertus by making a career-high 47 saves over 64:14.
