Men’s Ice Hockey Downed in Codfish Bowl Championship Game by UMass Boston

BOSTON – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team fell to UMass Boston in the championship game of the 57th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament, hosted by the Beacons at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, by a final score of 4-1 on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Beacons owned the lead through one period in today's championship game after Corey Clifton soared a knuckling shot into the back of the net at the 7:32 mark of the first.
  • UMass Boston added to its advantage in the second period by scoring twice, taking a 3-0 lead into the third.
  • Albertus cracked the scoreboard 4:39 into the third period with some strong passing on an odd-man rush.
  • On a 3-on-2 chance, Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec) fed Connor Bertamini (Calgary, Alberta) a pass that he tipped to Luke James (Moon Township, Pa.) in the slot for the score.
  • Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Beacons added one more goal to their tally to secure the championship with a 4-1 home win.
  • Between the pipes for Albertus, Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) tallied his fifth 30+ save performance of the season with 31 tonight.
