Men's Hockey Tops Post For Fourth Straight Win; Set Multiple Program Records

SHELTON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus Falcons men's ice hockey team set a program record with goals in a game and goal scorers in a game as they routed Post University, 8-1 on Tuesday evening at The Rinks at Shelton.

The eight goals for the Falcons surpassed the previous mark of seven, which they accomplished three separate times. Eight different players scored goals for Albertus.

Albertus has now won four games in a row.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus dominated play from the get-go, peppering Post goaltender Benjamin Cunneen with shots until finally breaking through at the 14:41 mark as William Lavigne (Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Quebec) scored his first career goal  from the top of the circle off a pass from Eric Chamandy (Montreal, Quebec) to make it a 1-0 game.

The Falcons extended its lead in the second just 3:03 into the period Jeremy Tremblay (Orford, Quebec) scored his first goal of his career as Gustav Muller (Hudiksvall, Sweden) found him on the other side of the goal with a wide-open net to make it a 2-0 game. Charles Lavoie (Chicoutimi, Quebec) also added an assist on the goal. 

Lavigne returned the favor to Chamandy at the 7:41 mark in the second as Chamandy's shot from the point made it a 3-0 lead. It was also Chamandy's first-career goal. The Falcons' final goal of the period came on a power play courtesy of Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) in a scramble in front of the net. It was his fourth goal of the season and 25th of his career.

Albertus piled it on in the third, as Zane Kindrachuk (Calgary, Alberta) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season just 1:22 into the period as Cameron Weitzman (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec) fed him on the open left side of the net for a one-timer from the slot to make it a 5-0 game.

Muller gave the Falcons their second power-play goal of the game as well as his second goal of the season as he prevented a clearance in the offensive zone, passed it to Connor Bertamini (Calgary, Alberta) who fed it back to Muller then took his time and fired when he saw an opening to put Albertus up, 6-0.

Post got on the board at the 11:21 mark in the third on a goal from Nick Brewer, but less than a minute later, Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario) scored his first goal of the season as the Falcons stole the puck from Post and Anderson fed Kirwin on a breakaway for a 7-1 lead.

Lavoie scored his second goal of the season on a shorthanded goal as Tremblay found an opening and fed Lavoie for the final tally of the game.

  • The four-game winning streak is the longest for the team since a six-game winning streak last season.
  • With the win, the Falcons knotted up the all-time series with Post, 3-3.
