Mount Ida College picked up its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on Saturday morning with a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-19) win over the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 8-9 on the year and 0-7 in league action.

Mount Ida (5-16, 1-7 GNAC) was led by Spencer Hastings and Justin Rhoden who chipped in with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Falcons recorded 32 kills in 90 tries for a .222 hitting percentage but it was not enough as Mount Ida pulled away with the 3-0 win.

In the opening set, the Falcons held an 8-6 advantage before four-straight Mount Ida points gave the Mustangs a 10-8 lead.  After tying up the set at 10 apiece, the Mustangs went on a 5-2 run before an Albertus time out.  After a point for the Falcons (15-13), Mount Ida went on a 6-0 run to take a 21-13 lead.  The Falcons battled back but the Mustangs took a 25-18 win on a Rhoden kill that ended the frame.

The second set saw 18 tied scores.  Albertus took a late 21-18 lead on a Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) kill before Mount Ida tied the score at 21.  The remainder of the set was balanced between the two programs.  With the score tied at 24 late in the match, back-to-back kills from Rhoden once again secured the set win with a Mount Ida 26-24 victory.

The Falcons opened the final set with a 4-1 run before the Mustangs went on a 10-2 run to take an 11-6 advantage.  The Falcons played catch-up the rest of the way as they were able to cut the Mustangs' lead to three at 18-15 on a Chris Pfeffer (Torrington, Conn.) kill.  Mount Ida closed out the match with a 4-1 run though to take a 25-19 win.

Johnson led all players with 16 kills as he hit .270 in the match with six hitting errors in 37 tries. Dennis Waibel (Bethlehem, Conn.) dished out 28 assists, while Pfeffer added three kills and 10 digs.

Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) added five kills, five digs and two service aces for the Falcons.
