Falcons Improve to 2-0 with 3-1 Win at CCNY

The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team improved to 2-0 on Thursday night with a 3-1 victory over CCNY in non-conference play.

The Falcons won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-18 before falling in set number three 25-13.  In the final set, Albertus won 25-17 to secure the match victory.

Raymond Torres (Cataño, Puerto Rico) dished out 22 assists, while Raul Rivera Rojas (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) recorded a team-high 11 kills in 33 tries. Both added eight digs each.  Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) led the Falcons with nine digs.

Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) tallied six kills as Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.)  and Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) had seven kills each.

The Falcons struggled in the first set despite a 25-20 first-set victory. They tallied eight kills and eight hitting errors in 29 attempts.  Albertus tallied double-digit kills in the final three sets with a set-high 11 kills in the second frame.

The Falcons have begun the 2014 season with a 2-0 record to mark the third-straight year in doing so.

Albertus will host Newbury College on Sunday, Feb. 9 in a noon match-up.  That contest will serve as the Falcons' home opener after their Feb. 3 match was cancelled due to the snow storm in Connecticut.
