The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team soared to a 3-0 victory over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon in New Haven.  The Falcons downed Yeshiva by scores of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-20 to improve to an impressive 5-0 on the year.

Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) led all players with 11 kills as he added two service aces and four digs.  He put together a .400 hitting percentage with his 11 kills in 20 tries.

Albertus opened the contest in dominating fashion as the Falcons jumped out to an 11-4 lead and later extended that lead to 19-7.  Led by 13 kills and just two hitting errors, the Falcons pushed its lead out and won the opening set 25-9.

Raul Rivera Rojas (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) led the Falcons with five kills in the second set to go along with one service ace and two digs as the Falcons took a 25-16 set victory.   Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) added four kills in the set.

Albertus opened the third and final set with a 4-0 lead thanks to three-straight service aces from Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.).  DeSousa finished the afternoon with five service aces and picked up four of those aces in the third set.

After opening up the third set to a 7-4 lead, Yeshiva battled back to tie the set at nine thanks to three-straight Albertus hitting errors. The Falcons then put together a 5-2 run to make the score 14-9 before Yeshiva cut the score to two at 16-14.

Albertus answered and extended its lead to take a 24-17 lead but a service error kept Yeshiva in the set.  Yeshiva added two more points after the sideout before a Daniel Valmont (Orange, N.J.) kill secured the match victory.

Both Tharau and Rojas tallied eight kills, while Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) added four on the afternoon.

DeSousa dished out 40 assists, while Raymond Torres (Catano, Puerto Rico) had a match-high 11 digs.

Yeshiva was led by Adam Rhodes with 13 assists and Benjamin Mann with six kills.  Jared Rechnitz added four kills and a team-high six digs.

Albertus has not lost to Yeshiva since the 2011 season, while the Falcons are 3-5 all-time against the Maccabees dating back to the spring of 2009.

Albertus returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in an 8:00 p.m. match at Emmanuel College. That contest serves as the Falcons' Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener.
