Men's Volleyball Falls on the Road to Brooklyn College

Brooklyn, N. Y. – The Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team fell on the road to Brooklyn College, 3-1, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at the West Quad Center. The Bulldogs scored a 25-17, 20-25, 25-17 and 25-23 victory to earn their first-ever win against the Falcons.

With the loss, Albertus Magnus moved to 0-2 overall, while Brooklyn improved to 2-5 with a triumph in its home opener.

Falcon senior outside hitter Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) paced the guests with a game-high 13 kills to go along with eight aces from the service line. Tharau led the team in kills for the second straight game and now has 21 kills in 2016. He recorded a game-best 21 points over the four sets and recorded a match-high 16 kills on the defensive end.

Other contributors for Albertus Magnus were senior outside hitter Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.), junior middle hitter Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) and freshman setter Jeremy Ortiz (Bridgeport, Conn.) Spilka was solid on both sides of the ball, netting four kills, three assists and six digs. Turner added seven kills and three blocks, while Ortiz dished out 23 assists.

As a team, AMC registered 29 kills, 16 service aces and 37 digs.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, February 8, with a road non-conference clash versus CCNY at 7:00 pm.
