Volleyball Loses to Emerson and Emmanuel in the Bay State

Boston, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team lost a pair of matches in a tri-match versus Emerson and Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at BrownPlofker Gym. The Falcons dropped the opener, 3-0, to the host Lions before falling to the Saints, 3-1, in the nightcap.

AMC moves to 5-9 on the year and 0-7 in conference play with the two setbacks.

In the opener, senior captains Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) and Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) paced the Falcon attakc with eight kills apiece. Junior middle hitter Josh Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) added three kills on the offensive side, while freshman setter Jeremy Ortiz (Bridgeport, Conn.) registered 20 assists. On the defensive side, Tharau had a game-high 16 digs and Turner had a match-high three block assists.

In the finale, Tharau had a game-high 13 kills and 15 digs for Albertus Magnus versus Emmanuel. In the four-set loss, Spilka added nine kills and Turner had six of his own. Oritz did a good job distributing the ball, ppicking up 30 assists.

As a team, the Falcons had 20 kills, 37 digs and three blocks against Emerson. The squad ended the day with 36 kills, 47 digs and three blocks.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, March 22, with a road conference clash against Emmanuel at 7:00 pm. The Falcons won't have to wait long for their revenge against the Saints.
