Men's Volleyball Falls at Home to Johnson & Wales

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team fell at home to visiting Johnson & Wales, 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center. The Wildcats completed the season sweep of the Falcons with a 25-16, 25-19 and 25-16 triumph.

Albertus Magnus drops to 5-14 on the year and 0-12 in conference games with their 11th loss in a row, while JWU improves to 15-13 overall and 6-6 in league matches with the shutout victory.

As a team, AMC amassed 22 kills, 23 digs and four blocks. Defensively, Albertus Magnus senior outside hitter Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) recorded a game-high 10 digs, while junior middle hitter Josh Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) netted a match-best four blocks. Freshman Alijah McGee (Stratford, Conn.) and classmate Jeremy Ortiz (Bridgeport, Conn.) both contributed four digs apiece.

On the offensive side of the ball, Tharau paced the Falcons with a team-high eight kills, while classmate Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) and Turner both registered six kills each. In the middle, Ortiz dished out 18 assists.

Albertus Magnus closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 2, hosting a GNAC tri-match with Rivier and Mount Ida visiting New Haven. The Falcons open up against the Mustangs at 11:00 am and end the day versus the Raiders at 3:00 pm.
