Geloso Named GNAC Player of the Year; Four Teammates Make All-Conference

WINTHROP, Mass. – A quintet of Albertus Magnus College softball players earned All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons landed three players – Ivy Geloso (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Jess Stettinger (East Haven, Conn.), and Janelle Franklin (Middletown, Conn.) – on first team and two players – Erin Dighello (Wallingford, Conn.) and Skylar Arent (New Fairfield, Conn.) – on the third team.

For her outstanding play over the 2022 regular season, Geloso was also named GNAC Player of the Year for the first time in her career. The last time Albertus Magnus received a GNAC Player of the Year nod was back in 2017 by Gillian Forter (Naugatuck, Conn.).

Geloso recorded a spectacular senior season that saw her lead the conference as well as rank within the top 15 in the NCAA rankings in batting average with a .496 mark. The three-time GNAC Player of the Week selection also worked an on-base percentage of .546, which ranked her first in the conference, and a slugging percentage of .803. Geloso set career-highs in every major offensive category, including runs scored (37), hits (58), doubles (16), triples (4), home runs (4), RBIs (39), walks (13), and stolen bases (5). She concluded the season posting 19 multi-hit games and nine games with two or more RBIs.

Stettinger earned All-Conference honors for the second time in her career, this time as a catcher, where she posted a slash line of .369/.472/.728, while setting a career-high in home runs with six, which was good for fifth place in the conference, and tying her career-highs in RBIs (34) and doubles (16). Stettinger also recorded 38 hits and scored 30 runs, while drawing 19 walks and going a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases. Stettinger tied her career-high with a .994 fielding percentage from behind the plate, while throwing out a career-best four baserunners.

Franklin recorded a breakout year for Albertus, receiving her first All-Conference honor of her career as a second baseman. The middle infielder appeared in 32 games for the Falcons and hit an impressive .427 over 89 at-bats, ranking her third on the team. The Middletown, Conn. native also set a career-high in hits (38), doubles (6), RBIs (14), and runs scored (21). As a second baseman, she posted a .948 field percentage, while posting 28 assists, 45 putouts, and turning two double plays.

Senior hurler Dighello also had a fantastic season for the Falcons in the circle. The Falcon's ace set a career-high with 20 games started and compiled an outstanding 15-5 record for the season while twirling nine complete games. She threw a career-high 106.2 innings and struck out a career-high 77 batters. She posted a career-best 3.22 earned-run average while posting a 5.05 K/7 ratio.

Arent kicked off her collegiate career earning All-Conference and All-Rookie honors after a stellar season in the circle that saw her post an overall record of 13-4. The southpaw pitched 109.0 innings and made 19 starts for the blue-and-white this season. Arent struck out 71 batters, while walking only 26, en route to a 3.02 earned-run average. At the plate, Arent had a spectacular season, posting a slash line of .429/.492/.592, while connecting for 21 hits, with five doubles and one home run. She scored 10 runs and drove in 15. She was also named GNAC Rookie of the Week twice this spring campaign.
