Emielita Steps Down as Head Softball Coach

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College Director of Athletics Jim Abromaitis has announced that Ed Emielita has resigned as the Albertus Magnus head softball coach. He looks to spend more time with his family and granddaughters down in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

"I would like to thank Albertus Magnus College and the Athletic Department for the opportunity to coach the softball program for the past 12 years," said Emielita. "I have been blessed with an outstanding group of coaches who worked diligently toward enhancing the quality of softball for Albertus. I am grateful for all of the student-athletes I had the pleasure of coaching and sincerely wish the best for the Albertus softball program going forward."

Emielita has been at the helm of the Albertus Magnus College softball team for the past 12 seasons and finished with an overall coaching record of 218-197.

Emielita revitalized a program with zero wins the year before he was hired into one with 16 wins by his second season. Emielita concludes his AMC coaching career with eight consecutive winning seasons. He led the Falcons to 22-plus wins every season between 2015-18, including a single-season program record of 30 victories in 2017.

During the 2015 season, Emielita coached rookie Gillian Fortier to a Fist-Team All-Conference nod, a GNAC Player and Rookie of the Year accolade, and an NFCA Northeast Second Team Selection. In addition, his outstanding leadership led to a GNAC Coach of the Year award in 2015. Fortier garnered GNAC Player of the Year honors and NFCA Northeast Second Team accolades again in the 2017 season after the Falcons' record-setting 30-win campaign.

Emielita has produced 23 GNAC All-Conference players, with multiple players receiving repeat recognition.

Under Emielita's leadership, Albertus appeared in seven consecutive GNAC Tournaments, beginning with the 2014 campaign.
