NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team dropped a non-conference road doubleheader to the Bears of Coast Guard Academy on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons came up short in game one with a final score of 5-3 and fell 12-4 in the nightcap.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS - Game 1      

• Albertus kicked off game one with the early two-run lead behind an RBI single from Anna Leone (Shelton, Conn.) and an RBI sacrifice fly from Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) in the top of the first. 
• Following back-to-back one-run innings in the bottom of the second and third, respectively, Coast Guard evened the game at 2-2. 
• The Bears' first run of the game occurred with two outs and bases loaded as a hit by pitch advanced the runners, while the second run was scored on a double to center field from Lillia Farlow.
• Coast Guard kept its run streak going, scoring three runs on four hits, including a pair of doubles from Natalie Beck and Mariah Dewey, in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead to three, 5-2.
• In the top of the fifth, Albertus threatened the Bears with runners on first and second as Breanna Saldivar (Middletown, Conn.) led off the inning with a single, while Angelina Ramada (North Branford, Conn.) forced the one-out walk but back-to-back outs stranded the runners on base.
• After a short sixth inning, Leone grounded out to second to drive in the Falcons' third run of the game in the top of the seventh to trim the deficit to two, 5-3.
• The Falcons were unable to keep the game alive in the seventh inning as the Bears took home the win in game one.

AT THE PLATE 

• Saldivar and Ramada led the team with two hits apiece. 
• Janelle Franklin (Middletown, Conn.), Ava Gladwin (Guilford, Conn.), Karissa Kerrs (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), Ivy Geloso (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Smith, and Leone each registered a hit. 
• Leone recorded two RBIs, while Smith had one.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS - Game 2

• After a scoreless first inning, Albertus took the early lead in the top of the second off an RBI double from Erin Molkenthin (East Haddam, Conn.) to allow Gladwin to score from second. 
• The Bears came alive in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs off six hits, including a pair of doubles by Julia Breidenth and Selena Serna and a Falcons' error.
• In the top of the third, the Falcons scored three unearned runs behind an error by the pitcher and back-to-back groundouts from Saldivar and Gladwin to cut the deficit to one, 5-4.
• The Bears' lead grew by four, 8-4, in the bottom half of the inning when Beck singled for an RBI, then Breidenth doubled to send two runners home.
• An inning later, Coast Guards' Veronica Krystofik drove in a run in the fourth on a deep single to right field, increasing the hosts' lead to five, 9-4. 
• With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Serna and Bridget Bartz singled to drive in a pair of runs for the Bears, bringing the score to 11-4. 
• Coast Guard closed out the game by recording its 12th run in the bottom of the sixth when Breidenth singled for an RBI, ending with a 12-4 scoreline.
