HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emmanuel struck first in the top of the first as Abigail Farr drove in two runs with two outs with a double to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • From there, Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) was in cruise control, allowing just three more hits the rest of her outing as she finished her outing with 5.1 innings pitched, allowing just two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five.
  • The Albertus offense has an opportunity to score in the bottom of the third but was cut down at the plate during a run down after a ground out.
  • Albertus was able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Amanda Savinelli walked, followed by a fielder's choice from Paige Scheid (Cedar Grove, N.J.). Arent came up and ripped a double down the left field line to score Scheid, making it a 2-1 game. After a wild pitch put Arent on third, Laforte ripped a double to left, scoring Arent and tying the game.
  • Both teams went scoreless in the seventh, sending it to extra innings. In the eighth, Emmanuel left a runner on base and the Falcons went down in order. In the top of the ninth, Albertus retired the first two batters for the Saints, but a walk, single and fielder's choice loaded the basse for Penney who ripped a ball just over third base, leading to two more runs.
  • Laforte walked to lead off the bottom of the ninth and stole second, but did not advance any further.
