HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hawks opened the game on a 6-2 run behind a trio of lay-ups from three different scorers. During the Hawks' run, Scott got the Falcons on the board in the first minute of the first quarter on an easy jumper. A pair of Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) free throws cut the deficit to two, 6-4, but the Hawks responded with another lay-up to push the score to 8-4 with 5:20 left on the clock. Hartwick then exploded for a 9-1 run to push their lead to 12, 17-5, with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter. A pair of Raposo free throws cut the deficit to ten, 17-7, to end the first stanza.

The Hawks carried their run into the second quarter pushing their lead to 23-9 with just over six minutes remaining. Shortly after, the Falcons went on a quick 4-0 push to trim the hosts' lead to 10, 23-13, behind a Scott free throw and lay-up. Hartwick retaliated by extending its lead to 14, 27-13, with 3:44 left to play in the frame. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, with Hartwick leading by 14, 33-19, heading into the halftime break.

Albertus came out of the locker room hot as a Scott layup sparked a 5-2 run that brought the Falcons to within 11, 35-24. Hartwick responded shortly after with a 7-2 run that pushed the score to 16, 42-26, heading into a Hawk timeout at the 4:03 mark. The Falcons continued to chip away at the double-digit deficit and continued to trail the Hawks, 45-30, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Hawks opened the fourth quarter with a 5-2 run, as Angelina Maselli hit a long trey to push the hosts' lead to 18, 50-32. A Raposo steal and lay-up pushed the visitors to 34 points before the Hawks went on a 6-0 run to increase their advantage to 56-34, with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation. The Falcons responded with their own 6-0 stretch to make it 56-40, as Sharaya Keele (Adams, Mass.) swooshed a jumper, Scott sank a lay-up, and Raposo nailed both of her shots from the charity stripe.

The teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter, with Raposo netting four points on a pair of made jumpers. Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) added a trey of her own, while Scott added three points on a free throw and a made lay-up. The 10-point run wasn't enough to overcome the Hawks, however, and the Falcons fell 64-50 in the second game of the Courtyard by Marriott Tournament.
