WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second time this season, Michelle Mecca (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Mecca made a whopping 29 saves over two games on her way to a 1-1 record. The Greenwood Lake, N.Y., native also recorded a 1.81 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage. She began her week with a career-best 18 stops in the Falcons' 2-1 road setback against Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University on Wednesday. Mecca then played all 109:06 minutes in Albertus' dramatic 3-2 double-overtime victory over Emmanuel (Mass.) College on Saturday, notching 11 saves to pick up her fifth win of the season.
The Falcons will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 6, with a 4 p.m. road bout against Lasell University in Newton, Mass.
