Women's Swimming & Diving Place Fifth after First Week of Virtual Meets

WEEK 1 RESULTS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team kicked off the virtual 2021 season in fifth place after the first week of competition. The Falcons posted a team score of 83, edging Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) teams Colby-Sawyer College (71.5), University of Saint Joseph (61), and Elms College (15.5).

WEEK 1 RESULTS
50 Yard Freestyle
Ana Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Hermosillo, Mexico) cracked the top five in fifth for Albertus' best individual showing with a time of 26:31 for a whopping 14 points.

50 Yard Butterfly
Gutierrez Gomez continued her strong performance by garnering 11 points with a time of 29.20 for eighth place.

50 Yard Breaststroke
Megan Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.) placed 13th with a time of 38.69 to gain four points for the Falcons.

400 Yard Freestyle Relay
Gutierrez Gomez, Crisbeth Castañeda (Guatemala City, Guatemala), Anderson, and Trista Caron (Naugatuck, Conn.) took home 22 points with an eighth-place showing (4:36.33).

200 Yard Medley Relay
The team of Caron, Anderson, Gutierrez Gomez, and Castañeda placed ninth with a time of 2:24.77 for 18 points.

While Chisunta Chikwamu (Lusaka City, Zambia), Arle Cruceta (Salcedo, Dominican Republic), Kiara Pabon (Hamden, Conn.), and Yazlene Perez (New Haven, Conn.) placed 10th for 14 points on a time of 3:31.86.

NEWS & NOTES
• The Falcons had five freshmen debut for the season-opening meet. Including Caron, Chikwamu, and Perez, Roxhensa Dilolli (Plantsville, Conn.), and Crisnelly Martinez-Tejada (Stratford, Conn.) also made their first appearances for Albertus.
• Sophomore Arooba Sholmiyet (Islamabad, Pakistan) also debuted for the Falcons this week, taking part in the 50 Freestyle and the 50 Backstroke.

UP NEXT
The women's swimming & diving team will begin to set times for week two on Thursday, March 18.
