Women's Swimming & Diving Take Sixth in Third Week of Virtual Meets

WEEK 3 RESULTS | WEEK 3 HIGHLIGHTS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team remained in fifth place in the standings of its virtual swimming series after a sixth-place showing in week three with 64 points.

Albertus (239) paces Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Colby-Sawyer College (208), Elms College (160.5), and the University of Saint Joseph (CT) (153) in team score through three weeks of competition.

WEEK 3 RESULTS
200 Yard Butterfly
Ana Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Hermosillo, Mexico) placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly for 13 points with a time of 2:52.89, her highest showing in a butterfly event so far this series.

100 Yard Freestyle
Gutierrez Gomez (59.06) posted her second top-10 showing of the week in the 100-yard freestyle, placing ninth for nine points.

50 Yard Freestyle
In the 37-person 50 free, Gutierrez Gomez captured three points with a time of 27.81 for 14th place.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Kiara Pabon (Hamden, Conn.) led a trio of Falcons to score points in the 1,000 freestyle, placing 14th with a time of 18:12.53 for three points.
Crisbeth Castañeda (Guatemala City, Guatemala) scored two points in 15th place with her time of 18:19.65.
Arle Cruceta (Salcedo, Dominican Republic) rounded out Albertus' scorers with one point in 16th place, finishing in 22:15.06.

400 Yard IM
Trista Caron (Naugatuck, Conn.) grabbed her first points of the event in the 400 individual medley, posting a time of 6:39.63, which was good for 14th place and three points.
Castañeda posted her second 15th-place showing of the day with her time of 7:42.92 for two points.

200 Yard Backstroke
Caron earned points for the second time of the week in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 3:20.96 for 14th place and three points.
Castañeda was tabbed in 15th place for two points with a time of 3:20.96.

200 Yard Freestyle
Pabon (3:07.97) recorded her second scoring time of the day with a 15th-place showing that earned her two points.
Chisunta Chikwamu (Lusaka City, Zambia) nabbed one point, her first of the event, with a time of 3:45.64 for 16th on the leaderboard.

200 Yard Breaststroke
Caron (3:18.95) got on the results page for a third time with a 15th-place finish in the 200 backstroke, which earned the Falcons two points.

800 Yard Freestyle Relay
The Albertus team of Pabon, Yazlene Perez (New Haven, Conn.), Caron, and Gutierrez Gomez combined to place ninth in the 800 freestyle relay for 18 points with a time of 11:45.22.

NEWS & NOTES
• Gutierrez Gomez posted her third consecutive week with a top-six showing, placing sixth in the 200-yard butterfly. It was also her highest butterfly showing of the series.
• Gutierrez Gomez has tallied multiple top-10s in two of the three weeks of virtual meets.
• Freshmen Crisnelly Martinez-Tejada (Stratford, Conn.), Roxhensa Dilolli (Plantsville, Conn.), and Arooba Sholmiyet (Islamabad, Pakistan) also took part in the meet but did not set any scoring times.

UP NEXT
The women's swimming & diving team is set to begin the three-day virtual championship meet that will span April 14-16.
