Women's Tennis Nets GNAC Win Versus Mount Ida

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team defeated visiting Mount Ida, 7-2, to earn its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win on Wednesday afternoon at Celentano Courts. With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-3 on the year and 1-2 in league play, while the short-handed Mustangs dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference tilts.

Mount Ida was short a player, only traveling with five, so Albertus scored wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.

In doubles action, the two squads split with the visitors winning at No. 1 and the Falcons taking the match at No. 2. The AMC duo of sophomore Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) continued the hot start to their season, cruising to an 8-0 victory to secure their sixth win in a row.

The Falcons pulled away in singles play, winning four matches to earn the conference triumph. All of the Albertus Magnus wins came in straight sets, as junior Zaida Velazco won at No. 1, Sabino won at No. 3, Wildman won at No. 4 and freshman Kiana Vega (Hamden, Conn.) won at No. 5. The victory was the third of the autumn in singles action for Vega.

Albertus Magnus returns to action this Saturday, October 10, with a road conference clash versus Simmons.
