Women's Tennis Drops Conference Clash at Simmons

Cambridge, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis fell to host Simmons, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in the Bay State on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With the loss, the Falcons move to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Sharks improved to 6-5 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in league matches.

The hosts got out to a quick start, taking all three doubles matches without surrendering a game. The loss at No. 2 by the Falcon tandem by freshman Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) and classmate Kiana Vega (Hamden, Conn.) snapped a five-match doubles winning streak for Sabino.

In singles play, the Sharks took all six contests in straight sets to earn the conference victory. At No. 1, Albertus Magnus junior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) was the lone Falcon to win a game in her match. Velazco fell, 6-2, 6-1, to Theresa Reinhard.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, October 12, with a home GNAC clash versus Suffolk at the Celentano Courts at 1:00 p.m.
