WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  Westfield State University sophomore Hannah Wodecki (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire) shattered the school's season runs-batted-in record, driving in four runs in a doubleheader split with Albertus Magnus on Wednesday afternoon at the Westfield State softball field.

Wodecki now has 44 RBI this season while playing in all 28 of the Owls regular season games.    Westfield has 10 games remaining on the regular season schedule, plus two games that are yet to be rescheduled, and probable playoff games remaining.

Wodecki broke the record of 40 set by Kim Brennan in 2010, and is the most in the 54-year history of the program.

A transfer Division II Franklin Pierce University, Wodecki drove in 24 runs in 41 games in her collegiate debut for the Ravens in 2023.

Today, she drove in one run with an rbi single in a 1-4 performance in the opener, a 7-3, eight inning loss to the Falcons, and followed up with three rbi while going 2-4 at the plate in the nightcap, a 9-1 Owls win.

In the opener, the game was a pitcher's duel with the Falcons taking a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning.   Westfield struck for a pair of runs on RBI singles from Alyssa Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.)  and Rachel Brewer-Karimi (Torrington, Conn.)  to grab a 3-2 lead.

Albertus tied the game in the top of the seventh when Jazmyn Browne (Bristoll, Conn.) walked to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a groundout, the Falcons were down to their final strike when Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) delivered an RBI single to tie the game.

In the extra frame, Albertus erupted for four runs with only ball out of the infield. With the international tiebreaker in effect, Erin Molkenthin (East Haddam Conn.) singled to third to put runners at the corners, and with infield drawn in to try to cut off the run, Hailey Laforte (Branford, Conn.) singled off the glove of Owls shortstop Clark to drive in Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.).   Isabelle Smith followed with a bunt single to load the bases, and the Julianna Petruzziello (West Haven, Conn.) delivered a base hit to the outfield to score two more.  Again with the infield drawn in Amanda Savinelli singled to short to score another run.

Reliever Ema Signore (East Haven, Conn.)  retired the Owls 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.   Westfield's Steph Scoville (Northfield, Mass./Pioneer) (L, 8-3) took the loss after working five innings out of the bullpen.

Smith finished 4-4 at the plate for the Falcons, with Arendt adding a pair of hits.

In the nightcap, Westfield tallied four times in the second and then added a three-run fifth to end the game early via the eight-run rule.

Wodecki laced a base hit through the right side in the third inning, and added a 2-run triple to right center in the fifth.   Sarah Bingham's (Reno, Nev.)  rbi single scored Wodecki from third to give the Owls an eight-run lead in the bottom half of the inning and end the game early.

Kiana Kalman (Somers, Conn.) had three hits and two runs scored, and Sarah Hough (Southwick, Mass.) drove in a pair of runners with a base hit and a sacrifice fly.

Westfield's Katherine Canty (Natick, Mass.) (W, 6-2) went the distance in a sharp performance, allowing three hits, walking none and striking out six to get the win.

Arent  (L, 3-5) stared and worked three innings in taking the pitching loss for the Falcons.  Paige Scheid (Cedar Grove, NY)  had a pair of hits.

Westfield improves to 19-8-1 on the season, while Albertus Magnus is now 14-15.

League-leading Westfield will be back in MASCAC conference play this weekend when they travel to play Framingham State on Saturday in a battle between the top two teams in the standings.
