GNAC MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
WINTHROP, Mass. – No. 1 seed University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) will host No. 3 seed Saint Joseph's (Maine) in the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Tournament Championship after both teams picked up wins in the GNAC Semifinals on Thursday (Feb. 22) evening. The title matchup will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
Both games were in doubt late into the contest with the Blue Jays having a strong final two minutes to dispatch No. 5 seed Norwich, 69-60, while the Monks squeaked out an 88-87 victory on the road at No. 2 seed Albertus Magnus.
This trip to conference final is the fifth-straight for USJ as it looks to reclaim the title after finishing as the conference runner-up a year ago. For the Monks, it is their first championship appearance since 2014. Saint Joseph's (Maine) last claimed the conference title in the 2008-09 season.
The two teams had one regular-season meeting back in December with the Blue Jays coming out on top, 92-73.
The winner of the GNAC Championship game will be named the 2024 GNAC Men's Basketball Champion and earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.
