THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team picked up a pair of wins to open its Spring Break trip Monday against Albertus Magnus College and Farleigh Dickinson University – Florham. The Lynx cruised to an 11-2 win over the Falcons in the opener before posting a 6-3 victory against the Devils to complete the Day 1 sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1 vs. Albertus Magnus)

  • Lesley plated a pair in the first to set the tone for the action as first year catcher Kevin Dorsey connected on an RBI single to give the Lynx an early 2-0 cushion.
  • The Falcons cut the deficit in half with a run in the second but stranded the tying run in scoring position as senior starting pitcher Dylan Langston worked out of the inning to preserve the 2-1 lead.
  • Adam Budorick gave Landston and the Lynx some breathing room with a two-RBI double in the fourth to double their run count to a 4-1 lead before senior first baseman James Brandon belted a groundrule double to drive in the fifth Lesley run later in the frame.
  • The Lynx put the game away with a six-run sixth highlighted by a three-run blast from junior outfielder Colby Jacobs, his first of the year, to bump the lead to 11-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Langston (1-0) went the distance to notch his first win of the year surrendering just one earned run on three hits while striking out six.
  • Brandon finished the game going 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
  • Jacobs drove in a career-best four runs in the win.
  • AMC right-fielder Terry DeSanty paced the Falcons with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2 vs. FDU Florham)

  • LU got all the run support it needed in the bottom of the first, pushing five runs across to fuel another strong starting pitching performance by senior Logan Watts (2-0).
  • Brandon picked right up with an RBI single to left to open the action before coming around to score on a bases loaded walk from first-year second baseman Owen Kalagher to make it 2-0. Next up, senior third baseman Cal Caruso took a pitch off the arm to earn an RBI hit-by-pitch and bump the score to 3-0. First-year catcher Caden Shott drove in the fourth run on an RBI fielder's choice before Kalagher plated the fifth run to end the inning on a double-steal attempt.
  • Watts was in control on the hill, not allowing a hit until a two-out single in the fourth found its way to the outfield grass by Aaron Santos.
  • The Devils finally found the score column in the sixth with a pair of runs, stringing together four singles but Watts was able to induce a lineout to short that the Lynx turned into a double play to preserve a 5-2 lead.
  • The squads traded runs in the seventh as the Devils got an RBI single by T Chippenda to pull within at pair at 5-3 before Jake Samela answered with an insurance run on an RBI single to right to bump the lead back to three at 6-3.
  • The Lynx bullpen was strong in the win as Noah Terzo picked up two big outs in the seventh before Patrick Teasdale worked the final 2.0 innings with scoreless ball for the save, striking out four in his season-debut.
