New Haven, Conn. – Senior Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and senior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Albertus Magnus Student-Athletes of the Week. Initiated in September, 2017, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
Bolden helped the Falcons to a 2-0 week as the senior forward averaged 21.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game while posting back-to-back double-doubles, extending her season total to 17. She began the week with a 19-point, 11-rebounds performance in a GNAC win over Simmons. Bolden capped the week scoring 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting with 15 rebounds, a steal and a block in a win over Lasell. The senior is just 17 points shy of tying Lianna Carrero (2010-14), who leads the program all-time in points with 1,905.
Walters, who was also named GNAC Corvias Player of the Week, averaged 34.5 points, 15. 5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 59.2 percent (29-49 FG) in a pair of victories last week. He poured in 40 points on 17-of-29 shooting with 15 boards in a win over Suffolk. The reigning GNAC Player of the Year wrapped up the week with 29 points, 16 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 79-75 GNAC win over Norwich.
The women's basketball returns to action this week with a road game against the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on Tuesday and a home GNAC tilt against Saint Joseph's of Maine. The men's basketball team hosts Johnson & Wales on Tuesday and Saint Joseph's of Maine of Saturday.
