New Haven, Conn. - Sophomore Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) of the softball team and junior James May (Branford, Conn.) of the men's lacrosse team have been named as the Albertus Magnus Student-Athletes of the Week. Initiated in September, 2017, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
In a 3-1 week for the Falcons, Anderson hit .385 (5-of-13) with a .385 OBP and 1.000 slugging percentage. The sophomore had five RBI while scoring three runs and posting two doubles. She registered two multi-hit games, including a pair of home runs and a season-best four RBI in a 8-2 win over Lasell. On the mound, Anderson finished 1-1 with eight strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched while surrending just 13 hits and two walks.
May tallied 15 points on 10 goals and eight assists in a 1-2 week for the Falcons. He opened the week scoring a career-high eight goals and three assists for a season-best 11 points in the win over Mitchell. Two days later, May posted a two-point (1g,1a) performance in a loss to Mass. Maritime, before concluding the week with a goal and an assist in the conference loss to Rivier. The junior attack also scooped up four ground balls.
The softball team returns to action this week against Anna Maria (4/5), Rivier (4/7) and Regis (Mass.) (4/8). The men's lacrosse team returns home to host Anna Maria (4/4) and Norwich (4/7) in the week ahead.
