John Brunetti and Gillian Fortier Named Albertus Magnus College Student-Athletes of the Week

New Haven, Conn. - Junior John Brunetti (West Haven, Conn.) of the men's lacrosse team and senior Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) have been named as the Albertus Magnus Student-Athletes of the Week. Initiated in September, 2017, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.

This past weekend against Norwich, Brunetti recorded his second start in net for the Falcons. Over 60 minutes of play, Brunetti recorded a career-high 30 saves as well as set a new school record, which was previously held by Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) with 25. He also scooped up two ground balls.

In a 5-0 week for the Falcons, Fortier hit an impressive .647 (11 hits) with a .684 on-base percentage and a .765 slugging percentage while recording three-multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 showing in the 5-0 win over Rivier. In the 6-2 win over Regis (Mass.), Fortier recorded her 200th career hit in the bottom of the third before she went 3-for-3 (two doubles) with four RBI and two runs scored in the 17-2 win over the Pride in game two. Overall, she scored seven runs to go with two doubles and five RBI, two walks and two stolen bases. 

The softball team returns to the diamond this week with a pair of home contests against Coast Guard and Johnson & Wales before closing out the week at Saint Joseph's of Maine. The men's lacrosse team returns to action this week as the Falcons resume GNAC play with a pair road contests at Johnson & Wales and Saint Joseph's of Maine.
