NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Men's ice hockey Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) and women's swimming & diving Ana Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Sonora, Mexico) were tabbed the Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week after an impressive week.
Gutierrez Gomez posted a stellar showing at the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, hosted at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass. The senior competed in six events and posted season bests in five. Her highest finish was a third-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 28.34 seconds. Gutierrez Gomez also tallied season-best times in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the 2022-23 season at the GNAC Championship. This season, the Falcons continued to grow in the water as the blue-and-white captured a pair of dual-meet victories against Elms College and new personal bests were set.
Risk recorded a stellar week for the Falcons, as he finished with a team-leading three points on one goal and two assists. The senior defensemen helped guide Albertus to a 1-1 record over its final two games of the season, including a 2-1 win over Anna Maria College. Risk opened the week netting his fifth goal of the season against the AMCATS before tallying a pair of assists in Albertus' home setback to Alvernia University.
The men's ice hockey team concluded the 2022-23 regular season with an overall record of 17-7-1, including key victories over intrastate foes Trinity (CT) College and Wesleyan University. The 17-win season was a new single-season program record for the blue-and-white.
